ESIC Lab Technician Qualification, Experience & Age Limit

As per the ESIC JMLT Recruitment Regulations, 2022 (applicable to all India):

Requirement Details
Essential Qualification 1 12th pass with Science subjects from a recognised Board
Essential Qualification 2 Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) from a Government-recognised institution
Experience 1 year relevant lab experience is compulsory along with DMLT (see year-wise details below)
Desirable Qualification Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLT / B.Sc. MLT)
Age Limit 18 to 25 years

Is Experience Required with DMLT? Year-wise Details

Many students think only DMLT is enough for ESIC. This is not true for ESIC JMLT. Under the current ESIC rules (2022 onwards), DMLT + 1 year relevant experience has been compulsory. Year-wise details from official ESIC documents:

Year / Recruitment Experience Required? What Was Asked
2022 – ESIC JMLT Recruitment Regulations (Gazette, 8 Jan 2022) Yes – 1 Year 12th Science + Diploma in MLT with one year relevant experience. Bachelor’s Degree in MLS only as desirable.
2023 – ESIC Paramedical Recruitment (ESIC’s own exam) Yes – 1 Year Same rule: “Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technologist from any Government recognised institution with one-year relevant experience”.
2024 – ESIC Group C Paramedical posts through AIIMS CRE-2024 Yes – 1 Year ESIC applied its own Recruitment Regulations at document verification. In its notice dated 03-12-2025, ESIC cancelled JMLT candidates holding only B.Sc. MLT (without DMLT), and cancelled other paramedical candidates who did not furnish experience details.
2026-27 – Upcoming ESIC Vacancy Coming Soon Expected to follow the same Recruitment Regulations (DMLT + 1 year experience) unless ESIC amends the rules. Check the new notification.

Important: This 1-year experience rule is specific to ESIC. Many other Lab Technician recruitments (such as some AIIMS, RRB and state vacancies) ask only for DMLT/BMLT without experience — so always read the qualification of the specific recruitment you apply for.

What counts as experience? Work as a lab technician/assistant in a hospital, pathology lab or diagnostic laboratory after your DMLT, supported by an experience certificate showing designation, joining date, relieving date and duties.
