BSc Nursing Third Year: Semester Structure
The revised Basic BSc Nursing programme places five teaching courses in Semester V and four in Semester VI, apart from elective and other scheduled activities. Teaching courses and university examination papers are counted differently because some subjects extend across semesters. The Sharda University programme structure also shows these semester groupings.
This guide covers Basic BSc Nursing. Students following an older annual system should use their university’s batch-specific syllabus when choosing notes, books and PYQs. Keep the official subject titles next to any informal names used in your study material.

Subject-wise Syllabus Overview and Revision Focus
The following is a concise orientation to the subjects. Use the full curriculum PDF for prescribed units, competencies and clinical requirements.

- Nursing Education: teaching and learning, lesson planning, teaching aids and assessment. Turn a familiar topic into a short teaching plan for revision.
- Forensic Nursing: the introductory forensic role, documentation and related legal responsibilities. Study the current material prescribed by your faculty.
- Nursing Management: organisation of nursing services, planning, leadership and supervision. Use examples from supervised postings to understand the concepts.

The listed 75-mark university theory examinations are three hours in the scheme. Source: INC examination tables, printed pages 240–241.
Planning tip: Do not put away your fifth-semester Child Health and Mental Health notes after semester-end assessments. Build a single revision folder for each subject, with separate Part I and Part II sections. Check the university notice for your paper code, date and question-paper format.
Clinical Postings, Practical Records and Viva Preparation
The third-year teaching plan allocates 400 clinical hours in Semester V and 560 in Semester VI. Your college determines the posting schedule and supervises competency completion. Online study can support preparation, while practical training remains part of the institutional programme.
Keep a weekly record of assigned activities, faculty feedback and topics needing revision. Before a case presentation, prepare an organised explanation of the assessment, care-plan goals and rationale discussed in class. For community and teaching assignments, review the purpose, target audience, findings and evaluation method.
For viva practice, ask a study partner to question you on one assigned case or activity. Answer aloud, notice gaps and check them with the prescribed material. Use your college’s approved logbook to track completion; a generic internet checklist may not match your assessment requirements.

- Start with the syllabus: create a unit checklist for each subject and mark topics as studied, revised and practised.
- Use short daily sessions: pair one theory topic with a written answer or a practical-viva question.
- Review feedback weekly: reserve time for corrections to assignments and practical records.
- Keep continuing subjects together: maintain combined Child Health and Mental Health folders, and preserve Midwifery I material for the next semester.
- Practise matching PYQs: write timed answers, check missing points and return to the syllabus for units not represented in the papers.
This routine is a suggested study approach. Adjust it around lectures and clinical postings. Repeated questions are useful for practice, but they do not guarantee what will appear in your examination.
